Notebook concerning 14th Massachusetts Volunteers regiment : manuscript, 1862 Oct. 11.

Greene's notes about events that took place in the American Civil War while he was a Colonel in the 1st Massachusetts Heavy Artillery (formerly the 14th Massachusetts Volunteers). Documents and letters are transcribed that relate to events surrounding the resignation from service of Lt. Col. Samuel C. Oliver due to accusations of his being a "horse-thief, liar, and would be forger." Includes transcripts of court proceedings and transcripts of letters from General J.S. Wadsworth, Military Governor of the District of Columbia, and John A. Andrew, Governor of Massachusetts, to Greene and others. Oliver was eventually reinstated to the position of Captain in the 35th Massachusetts Infantry. Also includes transcripts and notes concerning the court-martial of Major Andrew Washburn and the resignation from service of Greene in 1862.
